About Haleigh Johnson
Welcome to my page! I am a local artist located on Nantucket, MA. I have graduated from Plymouth University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and am beginning my solo artistic journey. I am very excited to start a new chapter in my life and to really throw myself into my art. Thank you for checking out my website and enjoy!
Teaching Philosophy:
Molding the minds of students is a very important job and helping each student become the best versions of themselves is the goal. I hope for my students to understand art as a way to release any and all types of emotions. I wish to inspire my students; in return I know they will inspire me. They will understand that art is able to evolve, it is fluid and you are only stopped by your own imagination. My students will be creative and think outside the box, through my own encouragement as well as their peers. When students walk through the doors of my classroom, they will be heard, loved, creative, and helpful. As the teacher, I will make sure every student has a place regardless of their background. With the help of the students, my classroom will be considered a brave space, with the hope that they will come to me if needed in any circumstance.
Throughout my life, I have always used art as a way to escape, a place where I can be creative while pouring my emotions into my work. I create with every medium I can, those that I have not worked with I would not shy away from learning and creating with it. I think with every medium, you can find your voice in a different way, and put forth all different ideas of elements. Whatever it may be, clay, plaster, paint, charcoal, chalk/oil pastel, wool/yarn, wood, metal, watercolor, I love to connect with my art.
While I create, I act intuitively as I work with the medium. I don’t like to limit myself to one thing and I wish to always keep learning and creating more. When I work with my pieces, I tend to stay very vibrant, although I do enjoy charcoal drawings and letting the darkness consume each piece. In my work, faces have always encouraged me to really embrace my intuitive work and my impulsive bold colors. When I am creating each face, I want to be expressive, colorful, and have lots of linework throughout the piece.
My art represents me, my life, what I go through and have gone through, and all that I carry with me throughout my life every day. I want my viewers to feel something when they look at my creations. Some may make you think about who you are or question your reality. Although, my main goal is to make you feel, something, anything. For me, when I look at each piece, it consumes my emotions due to the time and bit of myself that I have poured into each one.
I enjoy learning about the brain and how we as humans survive or thrive. I like to learn more about my mind so I may learn more about the life around me, how I may shift my views, always trying to become a better person. Just as I evolve my creations, I continue to try my best to evolve. I have realized that my best pieces come from a time in my life when change is the inevitable. When your life is completely turned upside down and there is so much unknown surrounding you, feeling lost but then finally getting curious about how this may change you for the better. I am evolving with my art, figuring out what works for me and what is harming me. Whether it be past traumas brought back up or new traumas entering my life. Art has always been a place for me to explain my emotions without having to go through the struggle of communicating them. With each piece I create, they are individually beautiful and unique, which I have grown to understand that I am too.
